The Cable Bill
I used to pay $71 for cable. Keep in mind that I don’t watch TV, I just use it for the internet. I decided not too long ago, that this was stupid. Today, since I had nothing better to do, I called and told them I wanted to cancel. The master plan was to get wireless broadband, which was cheaper than cable, as well as more flexible. I knew, however, that when I told them that I wanted to...

Fortune Cookie #552
I actually have no idea how many fortune cookies I have eaten in my entire life, but 5-5-2 was the number on the back of this one, so I’ll start counting there. You will take a chance in something in the near future Not sure if I should read too much into the fact that the fortune uses “in” as opposed to “on”

Uh-Oh
Sitting at home all day is depressing Bush to bomb Iran could someone explain why letting Iran develop nuclear energy is a bad thing? 50 Censored Underreported Stories because censorship implies collusion Where has all the ice gone? and no, the reason doesn’t matter, only the “what the hell are we going to do about it?” part does. (Special note to the thick: arguing about...

rox/sox: 3
I thought it was going to be another yawner, but all of a sudden it was 6-5. The Rockies showed their first real sign of life, and I may still get my desired seven games, but the Red Sox are looking good. Very good.

MacBook++; Leopard++;
That’s all, really. I haven’t got into Leopard too much, but the new lappy is nice and fast. The launch event was pretty ridiculous. I wanted to go, there’s no question, but more out of necessity and curiosity than… fanboyosity. There were a lot of people waiting (yes, waiting) to be let in, as is hinted at in the picture, and there were no fewer than 12 employees working...

rox/sox: 2
A much more enjoyable game to watch. The Rockies are playing without fire, but Schilling was amazing and Okajima is ridiculous. And once Papelbon has the ball, forget about it. I predict that Dice-K will pitch terribly and that the Rockies will take the first game at home.

rox/sox: 1
After the 1st inning, this is the least fun game I’ve seen in a while. I hope the Rockies can make this interesting, but it will be tough if they have to face Beckett two more times. Kid’s good.

name game
I am generally very bad at remembering names- very bad. Since I know this, however, it is something I work on. Yet, I’ve been noticing a disturbing trend: while I generally have been remembering more names, I’ve been calling people the wrong name more frequently. Somebody should study this and I will volunteer to be a subject.

why I don't deal in types
If someone says, “oh I don’t think that person is my type” and that person is single and frustrated, maybe they should try a different “type”

4739
After 4739 words and a two solid days of work, my Mid-term comments are finally done. It is an exhausting exercise, especially to do well (which I think I do, honestly). I wish I could say I was taking the rest of the day off, but I am just getting started… I really need to start them on time next time.

Rain, rain
We’ve been in kind of a drought recently, so it is really nice to have a whole day where it just rains… and rains… and rains. I kind of wish I had decided to stay in bed this morning…

Exhausted
My team played three games yesterday, a total of 58 points. I didn’t play a single one, and yet I was exhausted at the end of the day. Coaching is a lot harder than it should be.

Standing out in blue
When I was getting ready to graduate college, I got a gift certificate to LL Bean. I used it to buy a rain jacket- the same rain jacket that I still own today. I decided on blue because, well, I’ve always liked blue as a color, and it is kind of unobtrusive. Plus, it looks good with orange. Well, I was wearing the jacket today- not because it was raining, but because I didn’t want it...

If this were Minnesota
I would be hating the weather today. The wind has been blowing, it has been overcast, there has been the occasional downpour of rain, and if it were forty or fifty degrees, I would be miserable. I’d ponder staying inside all day with a blanket and tea. Or, maybe I’d muse about the approach of fall. But it isn’t forty, or even fifty, it is seventy-six (at the time of writing),...

Naturally Awake?
Thanks to a savvy rescheduling of our normal Thursday morning meeting, and the fact that I don’t teach the first period of the day, I promised myself that I would sleep in and wake up naturally and then immediately get up and get going. I definitely didn’t consider, however, what would happen if my cats woke me up. Is that a “natural” awakening? I don’t know, but when...

The Opposite End
I’ve been thinking that my, now normal, posting habits on ozmopolitan.wordpress.com weren’t mashing up very well with my day-to-day needs for output. So, I’ve decided to explore other options. Heck, if I can write my first post in the bathroom between classes, then this has to be a good thing, right?

I don’t mean to brag, but…
Perhaps just as predicted… (speculation about Apple opening the iPhone post Leopard) And, of course, Apple ends up announcing this the same day as I post about it… (via formerly known as juxtapoz)
