Link List
because I am too lame/lazy for anything else at the moment:  The Hobbit is going to be made with Peter Jackson as the producer, but who will direct? Tangentially, the assertion that Spider Man 2 is one of the best superhero movies ever is ludicrous to me, as I feel as though it is one of the absolute worst movies ever made (relative to the money it garnered) The Big Dig is done. Interesting...

ATM
I went downtown today to go to the bank. They have an ATM there, and I was going to use it. As I walked up the stairs to the lobby of the building that houses the ATM, I peered into the glass and noticed that nobody was there. That caused me to reflect. Here are my thoughts: Man, that’s weird. Usually there is someone either at that machine, or waiting to use it once I’m done. Wow, I...

1899 Hutchinson Bottles
A few days ago I packed some Christmas presents into a box with the intention of mailing them to Florida. The morning I was to send them off, I decided I’d rather bring them on the plane with me. The primary reason was that in the box I had packed a six-pack of special Coke bottles, and I thought they’d be handled more roughly if they were shipped rather than if they were checked as...

It must be a terrible world that we live in
because as I was standing in line to go through security screening at the airport, I overheard a TSA employee explain to a man that he couldn’t carry a snow globe onto the plane because of the liquid in it. And then, my next immediate thought was “yeah, what a dumbass.”  I mean, it is kind of messed up that the guy couldn’t take a snow globe onto the plane. It is also kind...

Math Shows People Aren't Good Drivers →
…a slight braking from a driver who has identified a problem early will allow the traffic flow to remain smooth. Heavier braking, usually caused by a driver reacting late to a problem, can affect traffic flow for many miles.

Umm, excuse me?
My cat just basically forced himself onto my lap, impatiently suggesting that he should have it to himself, rather than sharing with my computer. It was annoying but, much like most things that cats do, ultimately very cute.

Vindication!
I have no hate for Roger Clemens, but it made me so happy to see his name on thelist of people associated with the purchase of performance enhancing drugs on the Mitchell Commission Report (PDF).  Dear America,   If you dislike Barry Bonds because of steroids and don’t also dislike Roger Clemens because of steroids, you are racist. Sorry to break the news to you.   Love,   me

This morning...
I walked outside and the earth was damp with a recent rain. It wasn’t foggy, but the clouds hung low and I couldn’t see the mountains that make up the valley carved by the river that runs just outside my apartment. Silence filled that unknown space, and I got the feeling that today wasn’t going to be an ordinary day.

The Last Great Game
I feel more and more strongly that my days of following the NFL are coming to an end. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sport of football, and I enjoy watching it, but I think I am morally opposed to professional football and I think the time I spend following football could be better spent. That said, I am really looking forward to Patriots/Steelers this weekend. Mostly because I think that...

Wouldn't it be nice
If instead of having to deal with NCLB, every school had to have a band who could play the national anthem and art students that could decorate the school? That would be something.

Hawaii 12-0
I strongly believe (in the way that I believe sports stuff) that Hawaii should either be crowned national champions right now, or play for the national championship game. It isn’t their fault that they play in the conference they do, and it isn’t their fault that no good teams will play them. All they can do is go and win football games, and they’ve done that all season. Nobody...

Fortune Cookie #554
Today you should be the leader. Things will go your way.  From a Panda Express in the Cincinnati airport- about three hours after the group of adults I was traveling with appointed me leader.  I can’t make this stuff up.
