A Knight's Tale
It is a little ridiculous that Alan Tudyk, Rufus Sewell, and Heath Ledger are all in this movie; not to mention the very funny Paul Bettany (as Chaucer… the writer) and the very fine Shannyn Sossamon.
And how could a movie that plays We Will Rock You (with mideviel folk singing along, no less) and Low Rider in the first 10 minutes possibly be bad?

Ahhh
A rock cover of Beat It plays in the background in a amusement park outside of Atlanta. The park is full of a variety of people, accurately representing a cross-section of the Greater Atlanta area, and, indeed, our country and world. A kid with black sneakers, long shorts, and a recently won basketball walks by me with his friend. The beat is in his head, and you can see him processing it. I see...

(Red) Sox. (Devil) Rays. 8:07pm.
I don’t want to overstate this, but I think that for anybody who is even remotely interested in sports, this is THE game to watch.
On paper, it is simply a match-up of the two top American League teams (sorry Angels, you have been proven unworthy) playing the game to go to the World Series. Pretty standard October intrigue, really. But just beneath the surface lurks something quite a bit...

Screws Loose and Plumbing Problems
From The Dallas Morning News, a story about McCain’s response to Obama’s Tax Plan.
The article is funny on several levels (and no, it has nothing to do with a series of jokes traded between the two “main” candidates that continue to expose this campaign as a complete farce, while independent candidates who are speaking real talk about the issues continue to get ignored)....

Veritek and Willits Play Tag (Controversy).
I didn’t know it was actually an issue, but apparently it is (or maybe it is just a slow news day). Here’s the situation: the Angels have one out, and Willits on third. They decide to attempt a squeeze. The batter whiffs on the bunt and Veritek chases Willits down the third base line, dives, and tags Willits out (twice, I’d say, by looking at the video). He then falls to the...
Phil Hellmuth
I’m not one to make snap judgements, but that’s exactly what I am going to do here.
I watched one hand of professional poker on TV tonight (I was in the middle of doing other things, and it just happened to catch my eye). Phil lost on a flush-draw, and then made scathing remarks about the opponent who just took his ass to the cleaners (with a pair of fives).
Phil Hellmuth is the...

Manny being Manny (and kind of not really)
I wish I had posted this before the playoffs had started (it’s been in my mind for a while), but I didn’t. The long and short of it is, that there is no doubt in my mind that the Cubs will not make it past the Dodgers, and the biggest reason is Manny (who, incidentially, is a genius who was being manipulated by the worst human in sports).

A Bedtime Story
So, a little over seven years ago, I decided I wanted to buy an Audi. I was head-deep in student loans at the time, but what the hell, right? That pretty much started a spending spree, which still hasn’t stopped, and which I’ll probably be paying for for at least twenty years. I spent the money mostly on stupid stuff, too. I mean, I haven’t really improved my station in life, and...
