Supply Chain
So, I’ve been ordering movies from Amazon for quite some time. As a Prime member, I get free two-day shipping, which is awesome. It also has meant that in the past, if I order a new release (new DVDs are almost always released on Tuesday) on the weekend before, I typically get it in the mail on Tuesday.
Obviously, this means that Amazon has the movie in their warehouse before it is...
Fundamentalism Bad, Elitism Good
Ask yourself: how has “elitism” become a bad word in American politics? There is simply no other walk of life in which extraordinary talent and rigorous training are denigrated. We want elite pilots to fly our planes, elite troops to undertake our most critical missions, elite athletes to represent us in competition and elite scientists to devote the most productive years of their...

Nader/Buffett 2012 →
Only because I assume it is too late to get them together this year. The quote of the article is:
Nader recounted a recent meeting with editors at The Washington Post, who he said told him the paper wasn’t covering his campaign because he had no chance of winning. According to Nader, he replied: “Then why are you covering the Nationals?”

McCain vows not to Raise Taxes (on himself)
Admittedly, Biden was not as tactful as he could have been in saying that raising taxes on people making more than $250,000 a year is patriotic (really, he only intimated that is the case), but McCain being McCain countered by saying “I’m not going to let that happen.” Really? You promise you won’t raise taxes for people making more than $250,000 a year? Promise? I...

And maybe, maybe if he’d been on the front lines of securing our nation’s energy...
– Sarah Palin, talking about Obama not getting it when it comes to energy policies. The irony being that we aren’t energy independent and that Alaska only produces about 3.5% of our country’s energy.

Go Speed Racer Go
Speed Racer is the kind of movie that leads me to believe some people actually care about their craft. It is fun from start to finish, has an appropriate scope, and takes advantage of the fact movies are movies and not a series of photographs. The irony, of course, is that the Wachowski’s are responsible. All they really need to do now is not make Speed Racer: Reloaded and Speed Racer:...

The Farce of '08
In reading this op-ed piece, I realized that I spoke too hastily earlier when I said that this election is racist and sexist. It is also ageist. We are entering a time when older people are doing more things longer, and it is really unfair to suggest that Senator McCain is going to keel over and die leaving us with President Palin. It is ridiculous that the focus of this campaign has shifted so...

What is Google up to? →
Gears, Android, Chrome… This (lengthy) article tries to make sense of it all by looking at Google’s cash flow. Very interesting stuff (just plow through the nerdy nonsense- you don’t really need to understand the details).

A summary of the LHC's potential →
I’m not sure why I can’t stop thinking about it (thought it might have something to do with the fact that the other big stories in the news right now either involve a racist and sexist election in the 21st century that is slowly turning me apathetic, or the constant onslaught of hurricanes).

Updates
Pretty few and far between, eh? Well, here’s what’s up: I am going to start using twitter for more regular-type updates. Seems like an interesting haiku kind of concept and I think I can manage 140 characters per day. Plus, you know, it would be good for me to reflect on my day.
I won’t be neglecting this project any more than usual, so don’t fret.
