I went downtown today to go to the bank. They have an ATM there, and I was going to use it. As I walked up the stairs to the lobby of the building that houses the ATM, I peered into the glass and noticed that nobody was there. That caused me to reflect. Here are my thoughts:
Man, that’s weird. Usually there is someone either at that machine, or waiting to use it once I’m done. Wow, I wonder how hard it is to engineer something that you know will be used almost all the time. I am guessing it is pretty hard. It is probably really hard because this machine has one of those check readers in it (yay Computer Science). Actually, it is probably pretty impossible. In that case, you’d need someone around to fix the machine if it ever broke down, because it would be really inconvenient to have something broken that is normally working. Inconvenient not just to your normal customers, but to your employees who have to deal with the extra traffic.
Those are the thoughts I had coming up the stairs, and as I walked into the lobby. I turned, with card in hand, and laughed when I saw that the ATM was out of order.
