Early this week, they started re-roofing the building I live in. When I noticed what was happening, the roofers were at the far end of the building (relative to me). I shouted up to them and asked when they were going to get to my end. They said they didn’t know for sure.
Over the course of the week, I have heard them moving closer and closer to my end of the building, seemingly culminating yesterday (Friday) when it sounded like they were over the room just next to me. They work through the day, and so I thought they’d finish either yesterday, or Monday.
I didn’t think that this morning at… 6 freaking AM. 6AM on a Saturday morning. Really?!! I mean, I understand that it gets hot and I understand the need to start early, but damn.
It also made me wonder if these guys were getting paid overtime. I’ve always thought about how those kinds of situations are handled. To me, if you were hired to complete a job- say, re-roofing a building- in a week, then if you didn’t finish, the onus would be on you to finish ASAP (maybe that’s why they started at 6 this morning) and there wouldn’t be extra money involved, even if there was extra time.
