Speed Racer is the kind of movie that leads me to believe some people actually care about their craft. It is fun from start to finish, has an appropriate scope, and takes advantage of the fact movies are movies and not a series of photographs. The irony, of course, is that the Wachowski’s are responsible. All they really need to do now is not make Speed Racer: Reloaded and Speed Racer: Revolutions, and everything will turn out fine. Footnote: Also, dudes, not every movie you make has to have fight scenes in it, even really campy ones that set up amazingly cheesy lines: “Oh my God, was that a ninja?” “More like a ‘non’-ja.” Seriously.
